Skyrope delivers both traditional (IPSEC) and clientless (SSL) VPNs as
utility services to meet SMBs’ remote access needs. Historically,
IPSEC VPNs have been the only game in town for remote access to firewalled
resources. Their potential instability on client computers and high management
overhead have been the drawbacks. While it still makes sense to use an
IPSEC VPN for site-to-site access where full access to a remote
IP network is needed, it has become significantly more advantageous to
use an SSL VPN where the requirement is to remotely access individual resources
or services. SSL VPNs do not require software installation and hence enable
access from anywhere in the world, without prior setup. They also allow
administrators to limit access in a much more sophisticated fashion for
increased security and privacy. Skyrope provides SSL VPN access to many
highly sensitive data sources (HIPAA data at a hospital, etc.).
While your IT staff or remote office locations should use IPSEC VPN
tunnels, SSL VPNs are a great way to enable partners, clients, vendors
and mobile
employees accessing individual resources inside your organization. We
implement and manage traditional (IPSEC) VPNs as part of our network
management services from our data center, while at the
same time providing unprecedented value through SSL VPNs deployed on
your
site through
a Skybox.
The SSL VPN feature set on the Skybox rivals those of latest generation
SSL VPN appliances at a fraction of the cost. And as always, you do not
need to own or operate the VPN, and ubiquitous remote access is provided
as a utility service.
